About SimonSimon, are you a U.S. attorney?+
Simon’s general answer
No. I am a Swedish lawyer and jurist working with Swedish inheritance law. I am not admitted to practice law in any U.S. state. My role is the Swedish legal work and cross-border coordination; U.S. legal advice comes from a U.S.-licensed adviser.
About Simon and the firmEstate processSimon, can you handle everything in the Swedish estate?+
Simon’s general answer
Yes, complete Swedish estate administration is the firm’s priority service. Depending on the matter, I can handle the Swedish work from the estate inventory and authority documents through banks, property, communication, transfers, and the final estate distribution. I first review the facts and confirm the scope in writing.
Complete estate administrationCross-borderSimon, do you work with American attorneys and tax advisers?+

Cross-border estate servicesDocumentsSimon, what is a Swedish estate inventory?+
Simon’s general answer
A bouppteckning is a formal inventory of an estate’s assets, debts, and interested parties. It is generally registered with the Swedish Tax Agency. It is not the same document or procedure as probate in a U.S. court.
Understand bouppteckningDocumentsSimon, why is the Swedish bank asking me for more documents?+
Simon’s general answer
The bank usually needs to establish who may represent the estate, what authority that person has, and whether the documents satisfy the bank’s identity and compliance requirements. The exact request can depend on the account, estate parties, transaction, country of residence, signatures, and document format.
Swedish bank requirements guideCross-borderSimon, do I need lawyers in both countries?+
Simon’s general answer
Sometimes. Swedish and U.S. proceedings may run in parallel. I handle the Swedish-law work, and Simon collaborates with U.S.-licensed attorneys and tax advisers when needed. The right team depends on the assets, residence, documents, and jurisdictions involved.
Read the U.S.–Sweden guideWorking togetherSimon, can we communicate in English and handle the estate remotely?+
Simon’s general answer
Yes. The firm works in English and Swedish, and the Swedish legal documents can generally be prepared without you being physically present in Sweden. Individual banks can impose their own requirements, including rules connected with opening or using an heir’s account, particularly when inherited real estate or a cooperative apartment is involved.
Remote handling guideWorking togetherSimon, can I book a free first conversation?+
Simon’s general answer
Yes. The first call is free and lasts up to 30 minutes. You do not need to send documents before the call; it is enough to know whether the Swedish estate includes bank assets, property or a cooperative apartment, or both. If we decide to proceed, I send an engagement agreement for signature before the work and document collection begin.
Choose how to contact SimonEstate processSimon, when is the Swedish estate inventory due?+
Simon’s general answer
The estate-inventory meeting should normally take place within three months after the death. The estate inventory should then normally be filed with the Swedish Tax Agency within one month after the meeting. Extensions and exceptions may apply, so an individual deadline should always be checked for the actual estate.
Understand bouppteckningFeesSimon, what will the work cost?+
Simon’s general answer
The price is provided after I have reviewed the matter and understood the scope. The work required can depend on the assets, institutions, documents, heirs, coordination, and whether the full Swedish estate should be handled.

Simon’s general answer
Common problems include using the wrong legal document, speaking with a bank employee who is not handling the relevant estate issue, following instructions that do not fit the matter, and unclear communication between the estate parties, bank, authority, and advisers. The first useful step is often to identify the exact Swedish decision and who is responsible for it.
Read the common-mistakes guideScopeSimon, which U.S. matters do you not advise on?+
Simon’s general answer
I do not provide U.S. tax advice, U.S. probate advice or representation, U.S. estate-planning advice, U.S. litigation, or U.S. family-law advice. My role is Swedish law and coordination with U.S.-licensed attorneys and tax advisers when needed.
Read the scope and disclaimerCross-borderSimon, how does a Swedish-American estate normally work?+
Simon’s general answer
There is no single standard route. Cross-border inheritance matters depend on the documents, residence, assets, banks, authorities, heirs, and timing. The useful first step is to identify the situation and the documents needed rather than promise a general answer before the facts are known.

Simon’s general answer
No. Contacting the firm does not create a lawyer-client or attorney-client relationship. Representation is accepted only when the firm expressly confirms it in writing after any necessary conflict and matter review.
