There is no universal price quoted on this page. Simon offers a free first conversation, assesses the matter and confirms the agreed engagement before work begins. Compare written scope, not just a headline fee.
Define the Swedish work before comparing prices
List the result you need: an explanation of a document, a response to a Swedish bank, an estate inventory, property-related legal work or complete estate administration through distribution. A limited review should not be confused with taking responsibility for every remaining Swedish step. If you already have a U.S. executor, attorney or accountant, identify what that person is handling and what remains unresolved in Sweden. This gives Simon a clearer basis for discussing an engagement and avoids paying two advisers to answer the same question.
Which facts can change the scope?
Tell Simon how many Swedish institutions and assets are involved, whether the relevant documents are available, and whether the people concerned agree on the next step. Mention an existing will, overseas signatures, uncertain authority or a live dispute. These are scoping questions, not a formula that predicts a fee. An apparently simple account can require substantial document clarification, while a well-organised instruction may be easier to define. Do not assume the value of an inheritance alone explains the legal work.
Ask what is included, excluded and chargeable separately
A written proposal should make it possible to distinguish the Swedish legal work from services supplied by others. Ask about translations, certified copies, legalisation, property valuation, brokerage and advice from foreign lawyers or tax advisers when relevant. Clarify who will appoint those providers and how their charges are approved. Ask how any VAT or other applicable charges are presented. This page does not invent an hourly rate, fixed price, percentage fee or tax treatment for Simon's firm.
How will an estimate be kept useful as the matter develops?
Before accepting an engagement, ask how changes in scope will be discussed. A new asset, missing record or disagreement may create work that was not part of the original instruction. Agree who can authorise additional work and how you will be told about it. If several relatives are communicating with the firm, identify the authorised contact and the party responsible for instructions and payment. A clear communication arrangement helps everyone understand what the quote covers without promising a particular saving.
Time and cost are related questions, but not the same question
Waiting for an institution, obtaining a document and resolving a disputed issue can affect the timetable in different ways. Ask which stages involve active legal work and which depend on someone else responding. A short expected timeline is not evidence of a fixed fee, and a long elapsed period does not explain how charging operates. Discuss milestones and responsibilities instead of treating a completion date as a guarantee. U.S. legal and tax work remains with appropriately qualified U.S. advisers.
What happens at the free first conversation?
The first conversation lasts up to 30 minutes and is free. You can begin with whether the Swedish matter involves bank assets, property or both, and the practical difficulty you want resolved. Documents are not required before that call. Simon reviews matter fit and the proposed scope; if the firm proceeds, an engagement agreement is sent before the work and document collection begin. The conversation is a way to define the instruction, not a promise that a price or a full legal answer can be given before the facts are assessed.
